Before the playoffs, this one is a play off type of match. Two teams fighting to make it past the regular season. They will meet at the MSG tonight and Rangers have no option but win. They are trailing the Flyers by 2 points and they have got 2 games remaining so winning is the only option.
Rangers have been playing better than ever this season in last few matches. They had problems against the Sabres but made up for it by beating the Leafs on road on Wednesday by 5-1. It was the fourth win for the Rangers in last five games.
Flyers are also coming off a victory over the Maple Leafs. They have three wins out of the last five games.
When these teams met the last time, Rangers won the game at the MSG with a score of 3-1. It was a very tight game as both sides put defense on top of offense. Only 39 shots on goal combined produced 4 goals. Rangers are 2-2 against the Flyers this season in four regular season games. Flyers had shut out the Rangers 6-0 at the MSG back in December.A game for the Rangers players to forget...
When we watched the Rangers against Panthers, Lightning, Islanders and the Leafs, I can say that they are doing their best to make it to the playoffs. And I believe they will achieve this goal. They had a pretty strong opponent when they played the Islanders 10 days ago and they were down 2-0 in 1st period. Their determination turned things around and they came back to win it 4-3. It's the attitude and spirit you expect from a play off contender.
Flyers are still without goaltenders Emery and Leighton as well as forward Jeff Carter. It's hard to imagine a strong Flyers team without Carter. They also have another injured goaltender Backlund. Too many goaltender problems for the Flyers team. Rangers have minor injuries, being Avery and Brian Boyle but both players are expected to suit up tonight.
This is a very critical game for both of the teams but I have seen both teams in their latest games and Rangers are the better team at the moment. Take Rangers to win this one on home ice.
