Toronto Maple Leafs have been playing well but it doesn't really show in results, at least not yet. They managed to beat the Ottawa Senators and snapped their winning streak on Saturday but they couldn't overcome the San Jose Sharks on Monday. Outshot them 34-26 , Leafs failed to stop the Sharks in third period and they lost the game 3-2 in the end.
Blues won their latest game on home ice. They beat the Red Wings 4-3. Their penalty killing unit did pretty good stopping the Red Wings 4 on 4 occasions. Jimmy Howard made 42 saves for his team but it wasn't enough for the Detroit Red Wings.
Blues don't win too often at the Scottrade Center this season. They snapped a three game losing streak with the Wings victory but they had lost two home games against the Hawks and the Sharks before that one. When they lose games at home, it is never the lack of effort, it is usually because they overdo the offense and neglect their defense. That's why they are better on road. They play conservative on road and still get scoring chances. They haven't been able to change this.
Leafs play different after trading players 10 days ago. They now have a very good goaltender, Giguere, instead of Vesa Toskala. Giguere instantly made an impact, playing solid games. Also the arrival of ex Flames player Phaneuff helps this team. They have a pretty good squad now and it is very balanced after trades. Some players have really stepped up as of late. First of all, Kessel has 4 goals and 3 assists in three games and Bozak has 3 goals and an assist in three games. These players are certainly at their best right now.
I like the way Leafs have been playing in recent games. They still have some scoring problems but they managed to score 5 goals against a very good team Ottawa Senators and then they outplayed the San Jose Sharks despite the defeat. Blues had won the first game in Toronto this season and Leafs have a good chance to make it even tonight.
