Washington Capitals @ Ottawa Senators:
Both teams could have come to this game with a winning streak but their streaks came to an end recently. Sens were beaten by the Leafs on Saturday while the Caps' 14 game winning streak got snapped by the Canadiens last night.
This will be the third game between these clubs and both teams are coming into this one with a victory in hand. Teams won games on home ice in the first two meetings.
Capitals have been strong as any team can be offensively but it doesn't come without a price and it was the case last night when the Montreal Canadiens who looked to have lost control in the overtime after they blew a 5-2 lead in regulation, won the game with 7 seconds left in overtime. When you are excellent offensively, you can always come back, even from three goal deficits but you need to stay good in defensive areas to avoid a loss like that.
Senators are one of NHL's good defensive teams. They are however awful when it comes to powerplays. That's pretty much the only negative side of this team. They have worst powerplay n the entire league at 15.1% but their penalty killing is pretty good. They are ranked number 8th in the league in home defense category.
It will be an interesting matchup as we will witness a game between the best offensive road team in the NHL, Washington Capitals against the Senators who allow only 2.4 goals on home ice.
Senators' Jason Spezza has been amazing of late while Alexander Ovechkin has 9 goals and 18 points in last eight games.
Senators have only 1 regulation loss in last 10 games and Caps lost last night against the Canadiens after a 14 game winning streak. This will be a very good match.
As defensive as the Senators are Capitals will once again try to play their offensive play. It will be interesting to see Senators penalty killing units trying to stop the hottest team on powerplays in the league.
Expect to see several goals tonight.
