First pick of the day,

New Jersey Devils @ Buffalo Sabres

We are used to Devils shutting out opponents thanks to Martin Brodeur but it was the opposite last night when the Ottawa Senators beat the Devils 3-0 at the Scotiabank's Place.

Sabres and Devils will meet for the 3rd time this season and we are ready for another showdown between Martin Brodeur and Ryan Miller who will represent their countries in the Olympics this year.

Buffalo Sabres must be happy that they are back on home ice tonight. Their road trip started alright but then they have lost back to back games. In their final game, they were beaten by a red hot Vancouver Canucks team. Sabres thought they tied the game at 2-2 but their goal was disallowed by the referees and on top of that they had to play 3 on 5 against the Canucks. Lindy Ruff was furious after the call but it didn't make any difference as Canuck won the game 3-2 in the end. That was the fourth time in a row Buffalo Sabres lost a game on road.

In two games against the Devils, Sabres are 1-1 with the single victory coming at the Prudential Center in New Jersey. Sabres were shut out by the Devils on December 7h with a score of 3-0 at the HSBC Arena.

The last time the Sabres beat the Devils on home ice was back in 2008 and Buffalo is 1-4 SU in its last 5 games when playing at home against New Jersey so we can not say they have had any home ice advantage againt the NJ Devils.

Looking at both teams offensively, we can say that they have been struggling of late. Devils have scored 7 goals in last 5 when the Sabres have scored 11 goals in last 4 games. They had had an explosive night in Phoenix 10 days ago when they beat the Coyotes 7-2.

Devils have been poor on powerplays in last five games, scoring only one powerplay goal. They didn't have many chances as well, only 8 powerplays.

After all, we have decided to go with UNDER 5 Goals tonight considering this as a showdown between two olympian goaltenders who are the best goaltenders in this league. Devils have also been poor offensively as of late, so it makes our case stronger.

PREMIUM NHL PICK : UNDER 5 GOALS
