Third premium pick of the day

LA Kings @ Detroit Red Wings:

As the Red Wings started to get healthier, they have been playing better. It still doesn't show in the results. The reason the Red Wings won only two games of the last five is not a lack of effort. Red Wings has outplayed their opponents even in the games they lost. They were leading 2-1 in third period in Washington last Tuesday but they failed to score the third goal and the Caps came back to edge the Wings 3-2. They outshot the Caps 46-23.

Red Wings are getting healthier but it doesn't mean they are 100%. They are far from that. They are still without forwards Johan Franzen, Tomas Holmstrom and Jason Williams as well as defenders Kronwall and Lilja. These players are not expected to be back anytime soon.

When we look at games between these teams, Wings have been dominan over the Kings at the Joe Louis Arena. Detroit are 11-1 SU in last 12 games against the Kings on home ice. I don't remember any other team that Red Wings have been this good against in recent seasons. This will be the third game of the season between the Detroit Red Wings and LA Kings with both games won by the 2007-2008 Stanley Cup Champions.

Red Wings are having trouble scoring goals. They have scored only 14 goals in their last 5 games and they have allowed a total of 14. They couldn't score powerplay goals in their last two games and it costed highly in Washington when they failed to capitalize on five powerplay chances.

They are still better than the Kings who have failed to score a powerplay goal in more than 300 minutes. Kings have gone 0 for 24 on powerplay in their last 5 games.

We expect Jimmy Howard to keep starting for the Red Wings while Jonathan Quick is expected in between the posts for the visiting team.

Wings are close to another victory against the Kings but the moneyline odds are very low. Therefore we will depend on the poor form of Kings powerplay and the scoring difficulties Red Wings are going through.
