Dallas Stars @ Edmonton Oilers:
Edmonton Oilers have to stop losing hockey games. They have not won a single game in the new year and they won only once in their last seventeen games. Yes, this team has been dealing with injuries and they are playing without some key players like Ales Hemsky, Mike Comrie and Khabibulin but so has some other teams too. Not any other team has gone as bad as the Oilers.
Oilers were againt the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday night and they had a great chance of beating the Canucks for the second time this season. Late lead of 2-1 didn't mean more than one point in the end as the Canucks finished off the Oilers with a Daniel Sedin powerplay goal in overtime.
That's one of many reasons this team has been losing games. Their special teams have to get better and they have to get better quick! Edmoton Oilers allowed the Canucks score three powerplay goals on four attempts. This is not something we see often in a league like the NHL. Oilers have allowed 7 powerplay goals in their last 4 games. They rank at the second worst record in the league when it comes to penalty kills. They also have the second worst defence with 3.4 goals given up per game.
Stars are one of the worst road teams in this league and they lost yet another road game yesterday evening in Vancouver. Canucks beat the Stars 4-3. They were also beaten by the Flyers and the Canadiens in their most recent road games. 15 goals allowed in the last three road games. It's not something you want to do when you play on road and the Stars have not found a solution to their road problems. They are 7-13-6 on road this season and they are 0-6-0 on road in their last 10 games.
This is a great chance for the homeside Edmonton Oilers that they will face a Dallas Stars team who will play their second game in as many nights and who have one of the worst road records in the league.
Oilers did some good defending on even strength against the Canucks. They didn't let the Canucks have too much space especially in the neutral zone. It just didn't work on penalty kills but they surely had something that looked to be improving. I say the Oilers will finally snap their losing streak and win their first hockey game this year.
