Dallas Stars @ Philadelphia Flyers

Since the arrival of Peter Laviolette we had been seeing some improvements in the Philadephia Flyers team and it seems they have come to a point every Flyers fan can be hopeful about.

Flyers who have won three games in a row are going to meet the lowly Dallas Stars tonight. They have beaten Toronto Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning at the Wachovia Center and they managed to beat the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Mellon Arena for the first time this season. 7-4 win was the best of the Flyers this season and it was a very special victory as it came against their rivals Penguins.

They were very good against the Boltson Saturday as we know the Lightning have been playing very good too. Lightning were coming off a 3-0 lead that was interrupted because of lighting failure in New Jersey and the way Flyers beat them was very impressive. Flyers had 31 shots on goal and 4 of them found the back of the net. They also limited their opponents to only 18 shots and they were 100% on the penalty kill as well. 18 shots in 60 minutes and including 5 penalty kills show how this team is good at blocking shots and limiting their opposition offense. That's what Laviolette is about. The first week he came to Philadelphia I remember him saying " We can not be a team that gives up 30+ shots in every game". We can see it now on ice as they have been successful in limiting opponent offenses.

Stars are coming off a disappoint performance that resulted in a 2-0 loss in Columbus. They are still without their star player Mike Ribeiro and defender Niklas Grossman. They had only 26 shots on goal in columbus while the Jackets bombarded Stars goaltender with 41 shots. Stars powerplay has been blanked in the last 5 games, going 0 for 17 powerplays.

In conclusion, Flyers have been playing good since the start of the new year. They had a good game at the Winter Classic despite a 2-1 loss to the Boston Bruins. I believe they will be able to make it four wins in a row tonight by beating the Stars in regulation.
