Atlanta Thrashers @ Pittsburgh Penguins
You never know when a team would stark streaking. Noone would have expected from Pittsburgh Penguins to lose five games in a row but they did and they will try to snap that losing streak tonight when they take on another streaking team.
Thrashers have been losing back to back games too. They have lost their last two games despite scoring 8 goals in total. They seem to have no problems in scoring goals but their defence is letting them down. Thrashers have scored 8 goals in last 2 games but they have allowed 10 goals. It's almost impossible to win games when you allow that many goals.
As for the Penguins, they have scoring problems. Their offense stopped creating anything and they have been able to score only 9 goals in last 5 games. They have had 30+ shots in three of these games and in the last game against the Panthers, they had 48 shots on goal which they scored only 2 of them.
This will be the second time these teams meet this season with the first one won by the Penguins back in November. Penguins have beaten the Thrashers five times in last five games between these teams.
For the Penguins, Sergei Gonchar and Rupp remain sidelined as they are listed day to day. Thrashers will be without Lehtonen and defenseman Mark Popovic.
It will be interesting to see which team snap out of a losing streak. Thrashers have been losing games since mid December and it must feel like forever to this team. Pens are not used to losing so many games in a row but they have to find a solution to their scoring problems.Their goaltender Marc Andre Fleury also looked shaky in latest game against the Panthers. They also need some goaltending. Otherwise it looks like the Thrashers might make a surprise tonight.
Either way, this game has OVER written all over it. Both teams are desperate for a win and both teams have been allowing so many goals of late. It should be an entertaining game at the Mellon Arena tonight.
