Anaheim Ducks @ Chicago Blackhawks:
It was an unexpected loss (if you ask me) for the Blackhawks when they were shut out by the Ducks in Anaheim back in November. 3-0 loss in Anaheim after beating the Sharks 7-2 in San Jose was a wake up call for the overconfident Blackhawks team. Maybe that's what happens after such a huge victory against the NHL's best team. Good for the Blackhawks they turned things around after that and they are in a very good position in the league right now. They have gone 15-2 SU at the United Center in the last 17 games and they are coming off a 6-3 win on road against the St Louis Blues. That was the fourth victory in five games for the Hawks. Their offense has been exploding lately as they have scored a total of 24 goals in 5 games.
It's not quite the same for the Ducks right now. They are without Teeme Selanne and they didn't have Ryan Getzlaf yesterday in Nashville when they were beaten by the Predators despite taking an early lead in the game and also despite Jonas Hiller's pretty good goaltending. Hilller has stopped 33 shots before finally surrendering against the Nashville Predators.
Ducks powerplay had been the best in the league until mid December but they have been struggling lately. They have scored only 1 goal on 15 attempts in last 5 games. They have been able to score only 10 goals in last 5 games. Getzlaf are the points leader for this team but he hasn't played since December 26 and he has not scored a goal since the game in Colorado 10 days ago. Second best player Corey Perry has not produced anything in the last three games and he has only one assists in the last 5.
Hawks play very good on home ice and they have the momentum carried over to the new year with the victory in St Louis. Ducks won the first game in Anaheim but without Getzlaf and Selanne, against this top form Hawks team, they will have to come up with something really special to have a chance against them.
Hawks should be able to finish them off in regulation.
