Atlanta Thrashers @ New Jersey Devils:

Third time these teams meet each other this season. Devils had lost on home ice in October but they responded well in December beating the Thrashers in Atlanta. Their road performance tells the story. Devils are 13-3-1 and they rank amongst the top road teams in the NHL.

Devils have won four of their last five games. They played their worst in weeks when they lost to the Washington Capitals on Saturday. Caps scored 4 goals with only 1 answer from the Devils to become the best team in the Eastern Conference. Now the Devils have a chance to make it 55 points and become the best in the East once again.

They are 13-6-0 on home ice this season and one of those six regulation losses came against the very same Thrashers they will meet tonight. Their 8-2 performance in the last 10 games is promising especially when you comparet it to Thrashers' 3-6-1 in last 10. Thrashers have allowed 24 goals in their last 5 games, which is more than any team in the NHL. Their offense have not been bad either. They have scored 20 goals in that span but the defense has to step up if they are going to have any chance in the NHL. Their penalty killing has been terrible. They went 7 for 15 on the penalty kill in the last 5 games, that's less than 50%. Being the third highest scoring team in the NHL is a great thing but allowing so many goals and having the worst record in shots against is not helping.

Devils are the second best team with only 2.2 goals allowed per game. They also give up the fewest powerplays in the entire league.

Enough with the numbers. We know they don't mean anything when the teams hit the ice. But when you look at how these teams have been performing on ice, you see a slumping Thrashers team and a Devils team that have been on fire. Devils are still without forwards Zubrus and Clarksson. That is damaging their offensive power. That's for sure but they don't have many problems in the defense. Not to mention Martin Brodeur who keeps on breaking NHL records. The experienced goaltender is always doing his best and we will see him between the posts once again tonight.Thashers will start with Johan Hedberg.

Devils have a great chance to make it to the number 1 place in the East and they can do it tonight against the lowly Atlanta Thrashers. I am expecting a regulation victory from the Devils.
