The top two teams in the Pacific division are meeting at the HP Pavillion tonight. Sharks will try to snap a three game losing streak against the Coyotes and claim their number 1 position in the NHL one day after the Chicago Blackhawks took it from them. Currently at 53 points, Sharks can tie it with the Hawks if they beat the Phoenix Coyotes.
This is the third game of the season and the second time these teams meet in San Jose. Back in October, Coyotes won the first match with a score of 1-0. Later on in December, Coyotes made it 2-0 against the Sharks when they won on home ice.
Coyotes have been winning at home and they have made it 9 straight victories at home when they beat the LA Kings on Saturday. They have allowed only 9 goals in the last 5 games and they have won four of those. The single loss came in Anaheim. Despite outshooting the Ducks 41-34, they couldn't stop Ducks powerplay and the home side won it 4-2.
Sharks have not been playing well until last week. They started winning hockey games and they made it four wins in as many games. Their latest victory came in San Jose on Saturday when they crushed the Ducks 5-2. Perfect special teams played a great role in that win. They killed off 4 Ducks powerplays and they scored on both of the two powerplay chances they had.
If the Coyotes can keep their momentum and play like they have been playing for the last 10 games, they have a great chance to beat the Sharks again tonight. Sharks feel better. Winning four games in a row is excellent but they probably felt the best when they beat the Blackhawks in Chicago last week.It was important for this team's confidence. Hawks had beaten them 7-2 in San Jose but Sharks got even in Chicago.
Bryzgalov have been one of the best goaltenders in this league and despite the match traffic he has been very consistent. Except the game in Anaheim he has conceded only 2 goals or less in the last five games. That's why they are third best defensive team in the NHL allowing only 2.2 per game.
The total has gone UNDER in 15 of Phoenix's last 21 game. The total has gone UNDER in 6 of San Jose's last 7 games when playing Phoenix. The total has gone UNDER in 4 of San Jose's last 6 games at home.
