This is the first pick of the day

Philadelphia Flyers @ Pittsburgh Penguins

Flyers' new coach Laviolette won his second game since he started his new job at Philadelphia. This one was particularly an impressive one. They outshot the Boston Bruins and didn't allow them score more than one goal to win the game 3-1 at the end. Flyers' biggest problem before Laviolette was they were allowing too many goals and when the offense started to struggle they were losing back to back games.

They seem to have figured out a way to avoid too many goals. They won the game last night but they lost defenseman Tollefsen who played very well in the absence of Braydon Coburn. Coburn is still questionable for tonight's game. This may hurt their defense tonight.

Penguins won their last game in overtime against the Florida Panthers. They had several chances to finish the game in regulation but the offense struggled in scoring.

Penguins are almost at 100% these days, as they have only one injury, that is Kris Letang as he is listed as day to day.

After losing two games in a row last week against  the Blackhawks and the Canes, Penguins bounced back and won two games. First in Montreal and the last one against the Florida Panthers at the Mellon Arena. This will be their fifth home game in six games tonight. They are now 11-5-1 on home ice and they will try to improve that record against a Flyers team that has gone 6-8-0 on road.

When these teams met early this season, Penguins won it in Philadelphia with a final score of 5-4. Despite Flyers' 34 shots on goal, it was the Penguins who were sharper on scoring chances.

Against a healthy Penguins team, Flyers have six players on the injury list. Ray Emery is out for long as defenders Tollefsen and Coburn, forwards Simon Gagne, Betts and Darrol Powe remain sidelined too.

Sidney Crosby has been the best player in games against the Flyers, he has had 27 goals in 27 games against them. Expect more from him tonight.

Healthy Penguins team have also rested since Saturday and they will face a Flyers team who played a tough game in Boston last night. They should be able to take advantage of this too.
