Calgary Flames @ Los Angeles Kings
Flames who have played five games on road in a row are now going to LA to the Staples Center. They are coming off a regulation win over the San Jose Sharks who were given their second regulation loss on home ice this season. Jokinen scored for the Flames to win the game in San Jose following some great saves by goaltender Mikka Kiprusoff. He will start again tonight.
LA Kings lost their last game at the Staples Center against the St Louis Blues. They couldn't keep the Blues from scoring late in third and despite scoring an equalizer with seconds remaining, Blues won it in shoot out. It was Kings' first shoot out loss on home ice this season.
Their defense looked shaky in recent games. They have allowed seven goals in two games at home. Their penalty killing was also far from perfect. They allowed at least one powerplay goal in the last four games. They went 2 for 11 on powerplays in this span. They won't worry about it tonight as Calgary is not a powerplay team. Calgary has the third least power play chances in the league at 3.4 per game. Flames couldn't score a powerplay goal in San Jose when they had 5 chances but Sharks are a very good penalty killing team. I they get chances tonight, they may score easier as Los Angeles has the third worst penalty killing in the league at 76.5%. Special teams will be important but Flames are finding ways to score on even strength anyway.
Kings are 7-4-2 on home ice this season and the Flames are 11-2-3 on road. In the last 10 games, Flames are 5-1-1 and the Kings ar 2-2-1.
Calgary is 5-1 SU in its last 6 games when playing on the road against Los Angeles. Calgary is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games when playing Los Angeles.
If Kiprusoff can play the way he played in San Jose and I believe he will, I am sure the Flames will find a way to score goals against the Kings defense whom I saw struggling in the latest games.
Considering the form of these teams, Flames should win this one and improve their road record even better.
