Jackets who are 7-3-3 on home ice can't be happy with the way things have been going in the last 10 days. They have lost four of the last five matches and more importantly, they dropped two on home ice with the last one coming against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
After losing to Blackhawks on road, they thought they would go back home and win against the Maple Leafs but the streaking Leafs kept winning on road.
Avalanche lost two Minnesota Wild twice in back to back games and then we saw Matt Duchene stepping up and scoring points for his team. It wasn't enough. They could only win one game out of the last three and that was against the Tampa Bay Lightning last Monday. They were limited to 16 shots in Pittsburgh and despite taking a 1-0 lead they lost the game in third period.
Avalanche has scored at least one powerplay in the last five games but the penalty killing was not impressive at all. They allowed 6 powerplay goals by their opponents in the last five games and it has to change tonight if they are to win this game. Jackets scored 2 powerplay goals on five chances in the defeat to Toronto and they lead the league in power play goals with 1.0 per game.
Jackets and Avalanche both need a victory tonight and I am expecting a high scoring game as both teams are pretty good on powerplays and as poor on penalty killing.
