Third premium pick of the night:
Montreal Canadiens @ Buffalo Sabres
When these teams met in October it was Canadiens who won the game in overtime with a final score of 2-1. Buffalo Sabres had 35 shots on goal but Canadiens goaltender Price saved 34 of them to help his team win the game.
It was a whole different story, Gionta scored the goal in overtime and now he is not even available to play. Canadiens have been dealing with injuries and they are going to be without defenders Hal Gill and Andrei Markov along with forwards Laraque, Pouliot and Brian Gionta.
They have lost three games in a row and it looks like they are concentrating on tomorrow's game. Price will leave his place to Halak tonight in Canadiens goal. Sabres who are on a three game winning streak have not allowed more than 2 goals in their last four games. Ryan Miller is going to start again tonight and take another shot at another shut out. He already has three shut outs this season and he is leading the NHL in this category.
Miller saved 38 shots in Toronto on Monday and helped his team win the game 3-0. It was not only about Ryan Miller. The defense have also been very good for the Buffalo Sabres.
They have not allowed a powerplay goal in their last four games and they have scored 3 powerplay goals in the last three. Buffalo is third in power play goals allowed in the league with 0.5 per game.
Kaleta is suspended so he won't play tonight. Rivet is probable and Gaustad is out indefinitely.
When we look at games between these teams, we see that Buffalo is 16-7 SU in its last 23 games when playing at home against Montreal.
Canadiens are 5-7-0 on road this season and Buffalo are 8-3-2 on home ice at the HSBC Arena. One of those two overtime losses came against the Canadiens.
With the injuries and distraction caused by the important home game tomorrow, I find it hard to believe that Canadiens will be able to concentrate against the Sabres tonight.
Sabres have been hot and Ryan Miller has been sharp as usual. They are offensively good and defensively getting better everyday. Special teams are doing their jobs.
Sabres should wrap this one in regulation
