This is the first premium NHL pick of the day:
Columbus Blue Jackets @ Chicago Blackhawks:
I was expecting much more from a healthy Blackhawks team after seeing them destroy the Sharks at the HP Pavilion. It looks like it is going to take some time to start playing at their best. Kane,Sharp,Toews,Hossa, all offensively creative and high scoring players. If you have a team like this you won't worry about scoring. At least on paper.
After the amazing victory in San Jose, Hawks dropped two games in a row. First they were shut out in Anaheim and then lost in Los Angeles. 33 shots on goal but only one found the back of the net.
Jackets have a different story. They turned things around yesterday and beat the St Louis Blues on home ice. RJ Umbers had a hat trick against the Blues. Vermette has also been hot in recent games.
Last time these teams met last season it was the Jackets who won at the United Center with a final score of 4-3. They won both of the games at the United Center last season.
Jackets did not have any time to rest after yesterday's match against the Blues. Hawks did not play yesterday and Sunday. So they are well rested for tonight's game.
Dave Bolland and Adam Burish are on the injury list for the Blackhawks while Jackets have more to worry about. Dorsett, Modin and Andrew Murray are the injured forwards and defenders Klesla and Methot are also out.
Jackets have allowed at least one powerplay goal in their last three games and Hawks may take advantage of this and improve their poor powerplay percentage in recent games. Hawks scored 2 goals on 13 powerplay chances in the last five games. They can't find a better chance to make improvements. (Columbus allows the third most power plays at 4.5 per game.)
Hawks have all the firepower and it is hard to believe they scored only 1 goal in last two games. This team has much more to offer. After a two day rest, they should come out better at the United Center. Jackets have top form players like Vermette, Nash, Huselius and as in the latest game, R.J. Umberger.
I am expecting Hawks to win this one but the moneyline bet odds are very low. Therefore I will go with OVER 5,5 goals.
