Here is the second premium pick of the day
FLORIDA PANTHERS @ ATLANTA THRASHERS:
Two teams with opposite directions. Florida Panthers have lost four in a row while the Thrashers have won three in a row. Panthers beat the Detroit Red Wings and then the New York Rangers but somehow started losing back to back games. Their final came at the hands of Nashville Predators on Saturday.
Thrashers however has been on fire and they have made it three wins in a row when they shut out one of the best offensive teams in the NHL, the Flyers. Thrashers won the game 1-0 after beating Canes on road with a score of 6-4. One of the biggest wins for them came at Joe Louis Arena last week when they shut out the Red Wings 2-0. That sounds very unfamiliar with the Thrashers. Since the start of the season they have been known as a team that scores plenty of goals but also allow their opponents to score even more. That's why Atlanta has the worst shots against in the league at 35.6 per game. Their record looks much better now as they are 13-7-3 in total.
They will try to beat the Panthers after 2 years at the Philips Arena as Panthers won both games there last season. Florida is 5-1 SU in its last 6 games when playing on the road against Atlanta.
Thrashers goaltender Hedberg stopped 34 shots by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1-0 victory and this earns him another start tonight. He is 5-2-0 this season and He is 9th in the league with a 2.33 GAA. Thrashers goaltender Lehtonen is still sidelined due to back surgery. However that's all on the injury list of Thrashers team. They are otherwise a healthy team.
Panthers have more injuries as five forwards, David Booth, Campbell, McArdle, Stillman and Tarnasky are all out. Campbell and McArdle are day-to-day but the rest are out indefinitely.
Panthers have gone 7-5-1 on road this season and the Thrashers have not taken the advantage of Philips Arena as they have won only 5 games out of 12.
Thrashers have changed a lot in the last few weeks, doing better defensively and that results in more points for them. Should Hedberg repeat his performance from Flyers game, it will be harder for an offensively depleted Panthers team to score tonight. Vokoun will start for the Panthers and he currently has a 2.74 GAA.
Powerplays will be a problem for the Panthers too. (Florida has the third worst power play in the league at 13.3%) and on top of that they will face a good penalty killing team like the Thrashers. (Atlanta is second in penalty killing in the league at 84.9%.)
This game could go Atlanta's way tonight but Panthers beat some top teams on road this season and it could be risky to bet against them.
I will go with UNDER considering the good defensive performance of Thrashers and goaltender Hedberg, and also Panthers play quite defensively on road and they have five forwards to miss tonight's game. That all points to a low scoring game.
