Capitals will be at the MSG tonight to take on the Rangers who won the first game of the season in the capital city. It was 4-3 in favor of the Rangers who were hot those days with a seven game winning streak in process.
However, things have not gone as good for the Rangers team who have been inconsistent since that victory in Washington. They have lost three of their last five games with the latest loss coming against the Atlanta Thrashers on home ice. On Saturday they managed to beat the Ottawa Senators at the Scotiabank's Place.
Rangers are going to be without their top players Brandon Dubinsky and Chris Drury tonight. Meanwhile the Caps are still without Gordon and Knuble. But they are likely to get their top scorer Alexander Ovechkin in the lineup tonight. He said yesterday that he is all ready to play hockey and join his teammates and have some fun playing hockey. He is excited to be back on the ice again. Having 14 goals already this season, he should make an impact with his return tonight.
Marion Gaborik has 25 points this season and he has been as good in their last two games. He scored a goal against Atlanta and then he had an assist against the Senators. He is one of the top players in the NHL right now.
It is difficult to say how the Rangers are going to play tonight with the inconsistency they have been showing all month, alternating between wins and losses. They have two key players on the injury list and especially the absence of Dubinsky is a huge minus.
They conceded 15 goals in last five games and that's including a 2-1 game against the Senators. Playing against an offensive team like the Capitals is not going to reduce their Goals Against Average.
Ovechkin , Semin, Backstrom are all big guns and Rangers don't look like they have what it takes to stop these three.
