Free NHL Pick: Nashville Predators @ Phoenix Coyotes

April 27, 2012

It's the first game of the 2nd round in NHL Playoffs as Predators visit the Coyotes where they won twice in regular season.

Was it mostly the goaltender Rinne or was Nashville Predators too good for Detroit Red Wings to handle. Predators played fantastic in the last three games against the Red Wings and two out of those three wins came in Detroit, where Red Wings had most home wins in the NHL in regular season. Having won the series in only 5 games, Predators will now look to repeat that success against Coyotes.

Coyotes knocked out Chicago Blackhawks in 6 games but they alternated wins and losses on home ice. I can't say they are the strongest team in home ice but their performance in the last game against the Hawks was possibly their best this season.

We have two teams at their best. Each team has good goaltenders as Mike Smith is holding a 1.81 GAA and Rinne has exactly the same 1.81 GAA. Coincidental or not, they are going to make life harder for opponent's offense.

I will still go with the home team in this one as the +100 looks valuable to me. Despite the fact that each team beat the other on road in regular season and lost on home ice, playoff games are always a different story and should the Coyotes keep their form from the last game against Chicago Blackhawks, they will most definitely win this opening game of the series. Their powerplay has been the 4th best among the teams in playoffs and their penalty killing with 94% has been nothing but perfect! Considering that Predators were the worst team on powerplays, it will be really hard for them to unlock the defense of the Coyotes. Money on Coyotes tonight.
