Free NHL Pick: Florida Panthers @ NJ Devils
So we are back in New Jersey for the fourth game between the Devils and the Panthers. In the 3rd match, Panthers did what noone could have anticipated after Devils took the 3-0 lead in the first period. They came back from behind and win the game to take the lead in series.
If Panthers can beat the Devils again tonight, they will be going home with a 3-1 advantage and they will have 60 minutes to knock the Devils out of playoffs.
I honestly can't remember the last time M. Brodeur allowed so many goals on not so many shots in a playoff series, not to mention the fact that these last two losses against the Panthers are his first couple of losses against the same Panthers.
It wasn't all Brodeur's fault of course. He didn't really make a big mistake but it was below his usual performance. But what about Devils penalty killers? Panthers scored quick powerplay goals and they made it look so easy. I'm not talking about Panthers, Devils penalty killers made it look so easy. A team that had been almost perfect in penalty killing all season long turned into a team that can't survive a powerplay. That's really hard to understand.
I mentioned the advantage of Devils in my previous NHL prediction for match 3. It was supposed to be an advantage that Devils coach is former Panthers coach. I was very wrong. Florida's Weiss was expected to make a difference, so was Bergenheim. However, for some reason, Devils had no real pressure on these guys. If you let your opponent play like that, then you get punished even if you have 3-0 lead early in game. Worst lead in the game is 3-0 ? Well, it is a well known cliche but it had nothing to do with the score being 3-0, it was all about Devils playing like 3-0 was the end of the game and Panthers took advantage of that.
This is exactly why I am not going to pick a side tonight and instead of that I will go with OVER in this one. Bookmakers have the OVER/UNDER bet at 5 goals and we should be seeing more than 5 goals tonight. Devils will be looking to even the series before they take a painful trip to Florida and Panthers doesn't seem to be giving up whatever the score is.
Free NHL pick: OVER 5 GOALS
