Bruins Capitals April 16 2012 playoff pick

Free NHL Pick: Boston Bruins @ Washington Capitals

Boston Bruins visit Washington Capitals tonight as both teams try to take series lead after splitting games in Boston. Bruins had won the first match 1-0 with a dominant game but then Caps managed to even the series thanks to Backstrom's OT winner.

I like Bruins but I'd like them better if they still had Savard on the ice (or even Phil Kessel, now that would make a fantastic team). Leave the dreaming aside, coming to tonight's match...

Caps look so much different from the past seasons. They are not the high scoring team anymore, not to mention that they finished regular season with -8 goal difference. If it wasn't for their 6-2-2 run in last 10 in regular season, they wouldn't have been here anyway.

Bruins had a pretty good season and they had 49 wins and they completed the season with a +67 goal difference. Just like last season, they are also pretty good on road, keeping a balance between home and away performances. They had a 25-15-1 performance on road in regular season and compared to 16-21-4 for Capitals on road, they are the clear favorites in this series. Right? Not. This is playoffs and you never know.

Capitals goaltender Holtby who just started his playoff career had two great games and he holds an impressive 0.973 GAA meanwhile Tim Thomas has 0.964. So what do we have here? One experienced goaltender who continues his performance and one rookie who has proven that he can help his team in playoffs.

In the second game, both teams were successful in penalty killing but they both failed on powerplays, not that they too many chances. Only 5 penalties in whole game!

Bruins and Caps play a conservative hockey and they try not to lose the control. It is probably because  they know if they make a mistake, the other one is wating to punish them! We saw this clearly in second game when Caps' Backstrom scored the OT winner when he took advantage of the defensive mishap by Bruins.

I'm not going to pick a winner tonight but I will go with UNDER in this one. Two hot goaltenders and two teams playing defensive and conservative hockey.

Free NHL Pick: UNDER 5
